The State Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation is offering a new Living-at-Home waiver program for persons with mental retardation. The program will give qualified individuals access to an array of support services while living at home.

The new waiver services include: Personal Care; Respite Care; In-Home Residential Habilitation; Day Habilitation; Pre-vocational Services; Supported Employment; Skilled Nursing Care; Physical Therapy; Community Specialist Support; and Crisis Intervention Services. The program offers up to $18,000.00 per individual per year toward these services. Ms. Eranell McIntosh-Wilson, Associate Commissioner of Mental Retardation, stated "Our new Living-at-Home waiver program will enable individuals to live more independent lives in the familiar environment of their homes. We have the capacity to serve as many as 500 individuals with mental retardation through this program during the next three years."

More information about the Living-at-Home waiver program may be obtained by contacting your Regional Community Services Office or the Alabama Mental Retardation Division office at 334-242-3701.
