Substance Abuse Services
Phone: (334) 242-3952
Montgomery ---- Congressman Robert Aderholt will accompany Mr. John Walters, Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), on a tour of The Bridge, a Gadsden-based adolescent substance abuse treatment facility on June 30, 2003. The officials will visit The Bridge at 1:15 p.m. until approximately 2:45 p.m. As the nation’s “Drug Czar” Mr. Walters coordinates all aspects of Federal drug programs and spending.

The Bridge was established in the early 70’s and in recent years has expanded services to include a “boot camp” and “ropes course” model. These methods have gained popularity due to their effectiveness in building discipline and self confidence in participants.

The Bridge is a community contract substance abuse provider that receives funds from the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation (DMH/MR). Kent Hunt, Associate Commissioner for Substance Abuse Services, will represent the Alabama DMH/MR at the event. Walters and Aderholt will be available to meet with the press following their tour of the facility.
