The Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation welcomes a new Associate Commissioner for Mental Illness Services.

MONTGOMERY- Susan P. Chambers of Montgomery, Alabama has been appointed Associate Commissioner of Mental Illness Services for the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. Ms. Chambers has served as Director of Greil Memorial Hospital in Montgomery since 1997. As Associate Commissioner she will oversee the operation of seven state psychiatric facilities and the inter-departmental relationship to contract providers of mental illness services across the state. Collectively, the state serves over 110,000 Alabamians per year through the Mental Illness Service Division. Ms. Chambers has over thirty years of experience in state government. She holds a BA in Sociology from Auburn University and a MA in Public Administration from Auburn University in Montgomery. Commissioner John Houston said, “We are delighted that Susan has taken the position of Associate Commissioner for Mental Illness Services. She is committed to providing quality recovery-based services for our citizens through a system of care that is efficient, well managed and consumer driven.”
